DJ Spin One: On The 1's & 2's

Very few DJ’s have a résumé as versatile as DJ Spin
One, and it is not because of their lack of talent or
their lack of drive, but most probably due to the
fact that their ability to multi-task isn’t up to par
with Spin One’s. As a musician, Spin One’s credits
speak for themselves and if it’s a question of name
dropping and/or name association, then Spin One can blow most
others out the frame with just a few, namely, the lovely Vida Guerra,
Calle 13, NORE, etc. His ascent to the upper echelon of the music
industry as it relates to DJ’s is something that sounds like it would
make for a great VH1’s “Behind the Music.” From the way he got
his nicknames to the way he got a full time on-air shift on one of
New York City’s premier radio stations, he has stories for years.
His nickname is very catchy and the story behind it is just as
enticing. His admiration for break dancers led to the origin of
the first half of his name, as he would often try to imitate what he
would see them doing in his grammar school parking lot. This happened
only when his babysitter was running late, which, fortunately
enough for Spin One, was more often than not. He couldn’t get a
full grasp on all the moves they were doing, but he seemed to be
an ace at certain spinning type moves, which eventually led to the
moniker “Spin.” As a gifted graffiti artist he attained the second half
of his nickname, “One.” When the time was right, it felt natural to
him to simply combine both nicknames as a way to unite what he
felt were two of his greater talents in his younger years.
In speaking with Spin One, I noticed a very humble man who has
all the street cred and DJ’ing cred to be well on his way ...
